Fashion Editorial Shoot

Planning and shooting day and night looks in various locations around the city.

For this project, my partner and I wanted to create a zine that would represent both of our very different personal styles. Enrique is into very bright, pop art colors and motifs. He is also inspired by the 60’s style. On the other hand, I have a very minimalistic and classic style. I reference the 1970s and 90s decades to find style and beauty inspiration. Thus, we had somewhat of a bridge to gap. The story of our zine goes as follows:

Frankie is a 1960s girl who is soft and demure by night and aggressive and loud by day, a stark contrast to expectations. As she wanders a garden, her sharp style notes rebellion, youth, and the balance between old and new. She’s both from the future that the Hunger Games exists in and also the past that the 1960s occurred in and the present day. How? Fuck it who knows. It’s the type of odd future that Red Velvet resides in Feel My Rhythm. The idea is that she transitions into a softer woman by night rather than the other way around. She feels the need to put up this hard front even when in soft surroundings like a garden. It seems the fresh scent of the flowers doesn’t change her until she tips into the nighttime, where the sweet aroma fills the air and the flowers continue to bloom without sunlight. In this way, she is like a nocturnal flower.  Somehow the air is sweeter at night and as she dances in the moonlight she is entranced by the scent. She blooms from monochrome to CMYK.

Feeling: A relaxed, floral wander to a nightclub

Scheme: Black and white for day, CMYK (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta) tones for night

Beauty: Play with eyeliner, blush, freckles of odd colors to create slight surrealism to it

Our shoots feature our character walking through the city at night, in nightclubs, on a roller skating adventure, and hanging around their apartment. Some of our standout fashion pieces include a black and white checkered fur coat, a newsprint dress, a lace evening gown, a hot pink suit, and Gucci printed tan trousers.
